Why am I an artist?
For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed creating stories. My very first stories were told through the songs I would sing as a little girl, each one with its own unique qualities. Now, I have a love for many other interests as well, such as acting, dancing, creative writing, cosplaying, video-editing, and composing digital music.
Everything I enjoy has one common motif: the element of a story. A life without stories is a one-dimensional one, where I, the protagonist of my own real-life story, am always happy, and nothing ever changes. There is no action, fear, nor drama in this life, and that takes all the humanity out of what life is truly meant to be. Stories, real and fictional, make us human. Even when they take place in a world that is different from our own, they are not afraid to show us dark environments and deep character struggles. The emotions portrayed by the characters are the connection to humanity and to our present-day lives. Seeing these emotions as someone in the audience is a realization that what anger, fear, or sorrow one might be feeling is a natural part of life. It is an empowering message: Take the emotions from inside and use them as a guide in your passions. In my case, watching movies, musical theater productions, and other media sources was the spark to take something from within, the real and fictitious stories I had already created, and share them with the world, maybe with the chance of inspiring someone else too.Â
Over everything else that I do in my life, I am a storyteller. My dream is to tell the incredible stories I have heard, imagined, or possibly experienced myself, to everyone I possibly can with the hopes that I can ignite that spark in someone else that other storytellers once ignited in me.
What has been an impactful moment on my journey so far?
I have had many impactful moments on my journey. However, the most impactful moment is the entire creation process of Field Trip: The Musical. It is unlike anything I have ever done before, and nothing has ever given me joy as much as working on this fantastic original musical. It is my proudest accomplishment and most prized possession. And as for the one act edition, where I actually got an opportunity to stage the earliest draft of the musical, it was a blast to write the script, compose the music, block the scenes, and choreograph the dances, and I would give anything to experience it all again.
Who has helped and/or supported me on my journey?
These are a few of the people who helped me become the artist I am today:
Kelli James, my private voice and acting instructor
My Mother, my long-time personal agent and manager
All of my wonderful instructors and directors at AMDA
All of my lovely friends and fans!
What am I currently working on, and what is up next?
My current projects:
I just wrapped up Don Bluth's production of Anastasia, which ran September-October 2024!
I booked my first professional contract at Arizona Broadway Theatre as Ermengarde in their production of Hello, Dolly!, which runs January-February 2025!
My friend and I are adapting one of our favorite book series into a musical!
I am (slowly, but surely) working on the third draft of Field Trip: A Science Fiction Musical!
Here are some of my goals for what I intend to achieve in the future:
Become a working Musical Theatre Performer (Broadway, West End, Tours, Cruises, etc.) and/or Film/TV Actor
Make Field Trip: The Musical a published and produced musical
Dabble in Tech Theatre (Stage Managing, Directing, Hair and Makeup Design, etc.)
Write, Direct, and Star in more original short films and other content for social media
